ATTEMPTING TO ADJUST OR REMOVE AN EXTENSION SPRING ASSEMBLY AND/OR ANY RED COLORED FASTENERS WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING OR TOOLS MAY RESULT IN AN UNCONTROLLED RELEASE OF SPRING FORCES WHICH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS OR FATAL INJURY.
PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION IS RECOMMENDED.
DO NOT attempt to perform maintenance on this door unless:
- you have the proper tools and reasonable mechanical aptitude or experience; and
- you follow these instructions very carefully.
EXTENSION SPRING: HOW TO REMOVE TENSION FROM SPRINGS TO REPLACE DOOR HARDWARE
These instructions apply only for the purpose of removing tension from either Standard Extension Springs or EZ-SET® Extension Springs. Please refer to the ‟C” diagrams on page 4 to confirm.
Disconnect garage door opener. Refer to your door opener manual for instructions on how to disconnect. Carefully raise door to fully open position. Place C-clamps or locking pliers on both sides of track below bottom rollers to keep door from rapidly and dangerously closing (Fig. 1).
With door secure and in fully open position, tension will be removed from springs and lift cable can be removed from garage door bottom bracket button (Fig. 2 – Standard Extension Shown).
Place two (2) 2×4 wood blocks on each end of opening on ground for door to rest on when closed. There should a sufficient gap to freely move your hands and fingers away from door and ground.
FAILURE TO PLACE WOOD BLOCKS UNDER DOOR BEFORE CLOSING MAY RESULT IN TRAPPED HAND, CAUSING SEVERE INJURY.
TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY, USE TWO OR MORE HELPERS TO ASSIST YOU IN LOWERING DOOR. IN GENERAL, GARAGE DOORS CAN BE EXTREMELY HEAVY. WEIGHT OF THE DOOR WILL NOT BE APPARENT WHEN YOU FIRST BEGIN TO CLOSE DOOR. DOOR WILL FEEL PROGRESSIVELY HEAVIER AS IT IS LOWERED. TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY, KEEP HANDS AND FINGERS CLEAR OF SECTION JOINTS, TRACK AND OTHER DOOR PARTS WHILE THE DOOR IS CLOSING.
Remove C-clamps or locking pliers from track and carefully close door (Fig. 3). Hands should be placed on the bottom of door where wood blocks will not interfere or pinch hands once fully lowered.
Lock door securely in down position using the door lock. If there is no door lock, to secure door in down position, apply C-clamp or locking pliers placed in track, directly above a roller.
